Help Me Out Here?

I have some REALLY OLD friends who are already grandparents or will soon be.

I got to thinking- I will probably be a grandparent one day. What if my adult kids come to me and ask me how to be a good parent?

Made me have an existential crisis.

So, I thought to myself, “Self, why not ask everyone you know- What did their parents do right?”

Then I congratulated myself on the wisdom of the idea and decided to follow through.

Will you help me out, here?

Younger people- what have your parents done right so far in parenting you?

Older people- what did your parents do right in parenting you?

I can assemble our collective wisdom. Then I’ll be ready if anyone asks…

They taught me to live by causes. One of my elementary school memories is our family boycotting grapes one summer to show unity with Caesar Chavez and the migrant farm workers. I grew up watching them work as civil rights activists, for proper pay for teachers, for the needs of poverty stricken children…

  2. Gosh, I guess this is a difficult question for all of us! One thing off the top of my head – my parents [esp. my dad] taught me to find the humor in any situation. Sometimes it really is true that you either need to laugh or cry, and laughing is much more fun [ and leaves more attractive wrinkles behind...]
