Best “Real Life” Books?

I am making a list of great “real life” books- can you help?

As many folks know, some years back I wrote a Human Development text that a number of Mt Sophia students have used. It seriously needs updating, so I have a team working on it.

We’d like to include some booklists that the students might like to read to increase their experience with the curriculum. (Besides- sharing ideas with each other here is good, too.)

What are your favorite books on the topics here?

-How to survive pre-adolescence

-Adolescent topics- dating, faith, understanding self and life

-Parenting

-What’s it like to be a grown up?

-How to understand and help the elderly

Thanks for the help!

  1. some of my favorites are by James Dobson, like The Strong Willed Child, Preparing for Adolescence, etc. I haven’t read Bringing up Boys, but it sounds good. I also recommend books that have to do with early chldhood education, like Better Late than Early or Ruth Beechick’s books. Also, books that have to do with learning disabilities, like Freeks, Geeks, and Asperger’s Syndrome.

  2. All great books. Thanks, Marilyn.

My favorite parenting book is How to Really Love Your Child by Ross Campbell.
